    Pattern 14 Stock Profile

This may seem a bit silly, but I'm working on restoring a Winchester P14, and I need to profile the replacement stock. The new stock itself is a very nice piece of black walnut, but was specifically left "fat" in the forend to allow the restorer to make either an Eddystone fat boy, or Remington/ Winchester profiled stock. Can any members supply top down photos of Remington/Winchester stocks around the front handguard?

I would install the barreled action into the stock, along with both handguards an use your rear handguard as a guide. Just lightly trace the outline in pencil onto the top of the stock and shape to the pencil lines.

Actually, after looking at mine, it's much more complicated than that, and would be a books length of post reply to describe it. I will try and get some pics taken in the next little while and get them posted, that will show it all.

Thanks for the photos! Looks like the stock is a semi oval around the finger grooves, and it cuts inwards toward the upper handguard, I guess I have my work cut out for me

Actually, if anyone doesn't mind measuring the dimensions of the grasping grooves, especially depth, that would be immensely helpful. I'll be making this a Mk.2 replacement style stock, so the grasping grooves should be equal

The long grasping groove measures 5.75" long and about .090"~.095" deep. They look to have been cut with around a 9/16" wide horizontal milling cutter, not sure of the diameter, but probably at least 3".
