    1903 Springfield Thoughts

I came across this 1903 Springfield and to me and what research I've done on 1903's looks to be all correct but wanted another opinion before purchasing. S/N indicates it's a 1919 manufacture and barrel is marked 10-19.

Looks like a very nice and possibly original M1903 rifle. What numbers/letters are stamped on the bolt handle root? Depends on the price, but having collected M1903's for about 50 years, the only better examples have been Nation Match rifles.

Also, If you can send me the serial number, I can check for information in the SRS records.

Don’t quote me and I might be full of it but it looks like there has been some old sanding on the stock to me. Anymore I always look at the corners of the grasping grooves and cartouches. The left side groove doesn’t look as good as the right. They corners should be sharp not rounded. Looks like the handguards are square and proud where they meet the stock while the top of the stock isn’t. Don’t know if this is correct or not and in it’s defence this is a nice 102 yr old rifle. Also don’t know your price point. Honestly I would be surprised if it hasn’t been messed with a little. As I say I’m not any kind of expert. Good luck.
