Found a Rock-Ola

Went to the OGCA show yesterday and found a Rock-Ola running around loose. I corralled it as quickly as I could. Cost me a small fortune, but you just don't find them very often. It may be a restoration, but I'll do a detailed look at it and see if I find repro parts. If there are any, they are good ones. It also came with a "lineman's holster". There were a number of carbines available at prices ranging from 1100 to 6250 dollars! The $6250 one was an "ALL CORRECT" IP with a bunch of repro arts that looked like they came from China via one or more of our favorite humpers! There were several Inlands and Winchesters and a spattering of others like NPM, IBM, QHMC, Std Pro. and a Saginaw SG. Didn't see any S'G's or Underwoods. Not much in the way of parts or other accessories at that show. Still....it was a good day for me.

I knew you were looking. Any offers to buy it from you before you could get it out to your car ?
I use a ex employee.... A really Big Guy to run blocker for me. I also put a back pack on him and use him as a Pack Mule to carry stuff I've bought around.
Buy 500 - 1000 Cast .45ACP in .230Grn and the weight starts getting heavy..... Quickly with rows and rows left to scope out.

I've seen one Rock-Ola about 5 years ago at the range. Just a nice honest upgraded and refinished carbine with a bayonet lug and type 2 sights. Beautiful and rare little rifle. Congratulations.

There were 4 guys lined up behind me hoping I would put the carbine down. Once it got into my hands, I wouldn't let go. Those guys were actually arguing about who was in line first! I kept it in the crook of my arm while I took my wallet out. I wasn't about to give any of those guys a chance to abscound with it! As far as I can tell, there are no fake/repro parts. I'm not sure that it is a restoration either. There is some pitting along the wood line on the receiver and a little bit on the rear of the bolt. I think they have been together for a long time. The rest of it is in very nice condition with little finish wear. Yes, I did have a couple guys ask if I wanted to sell it. I wouldn't even give them a hyper inflated price. I was afraid one of them might agree! *LOL*

I haven't really been going to shows in more than a year. Three years ago you could still find a Rockola. An acquaintance was waiting for me to show me one he had in his car. He didn't have it on his table. It was a 6.2 mil with Inland barrel, bayo lug and adj sight. Another was either at that show door walking in or may have been the next show there. It was in rebuilt condition with orig barrel. They were both good prices.

Lucked into one in a shop in Alexandria VA in 1994, A Korean not imported by Blue Sky. Found out later my father carried one in WWII.

Did a data sheet on it today. Found a very light, barely visible import mark; Federal Ordnance. I can safely say it is a restoration; a good one, but a restoration none the less. Still I guess I'm happy that I got it even though it is a bit over priced for what it is. At least it fills the gap in my collection. It looks like all but one of the parts are correct and real. The safety is real (I believe) but too late a type. For that serial I think it should be a type 2 unmarked and it was a type 3. Not really a problem since I have (had) a spare unmarked type 2 to replace it with.

I believe we were leaving when the guy walked in with it. My friend checked it out before he got inside and said it was a resto and priced to high for him to pick it up. It was a nice looking carbine.. glad you got it. I looked at a really nice Jan 43 inland in the lot that looked original but the guy wanted 2700 for it. I guess that could be what people are getting now..
