I may figure out how to send pictures ASAP this the info from the sellers listingAntique U.S. Springfield 1896 Kragicon Carbine in .30-40 Krag. Made 1897. The stock has a boxed "JLA/1896" cartouche on the left side. Of note, the stock appears to be an 1892 Model Krag stock modified into a carbine stock. This is noted by the filled in cleaning rod channel seen in front of the band, and the filled in rear sling swivel. Circled "P" firing proof on the wrist. Correct "C" marked carbine sight and sight

I believe I saw that one - on Gunbroker? IF it is the one I saw, it's an interesting piece and a bit of a conundrum. I think at least some of the parts are faked/modified, including unfortunately the rear sight (looks like a rifle sight, graduated to "18," but with a "C" stamped over the "17") and possibly the stock. But that serial is in very good company, falling within a range with a lot of SRS 96C hits. More interestingly, it falls between the two highest 1st USV Cavalry numbers in Mallory.

Definitely post up some pics when you can, and hopefully the experts will chime in.

A pet peeve FWIW: There is no "JLA" Kragicon inspection mark.

The stock inspection mark, popularly called an 'acceptance cartouche', is actually a cursive "J.S.A.", for Joseph Sumner Adams, assistant-foreman, Springfield Armory - assembly room.

William Brophy made a mistake in his book, "The Krag Rifle", and referred to the inspection mark as "J.L.A."

Brophy was a wonderful writer and put out some fine works on firearms.

This small mistake gets repeated frequently in GunBroker and other gun auction descriptions.
It's a sure sign where the description information came from!

you are correct in that this "carbine" was listed on Gunbroker.com, in addition to the incorrect and fraudulent rear sight if you look carefully at the serial number it appears there is some serious inconsistency between the 77 in size and shape and the other 3 numbers ,my carbine is also a 72 series number and all 5 numbers are from the same die set the size and shape of the numbers are consistent.
