A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I don't think these are partisans but US trained army or 26th Cavalry, which was issued gas trap and later gas port M1icon rifles

I agree with Robert. FWIW, one of the earliest original Gas Traps known back in the day was Burt Kellerstedt's 20343. He bought it from a vet who said he was in the Philippines when the Japaneseicon invaded and his CO told him to take all the Garands into the jungle and bury them. He loaded 100 into a Jeep but only buried 99. How he and this gun got out is not known.

The Philippine Scouts 26th Cavalry had all their sabers removed from service in 1935 (as did the US Cavalry in the states) as
the cavalry still required an edge weapon in the Philippines, all the Model 1915 bolo bayonets were rounded up and issued to
the 26th Cavalry (these having limited use on the Model 1903 rifle)

When the 26th Cavalry PS received their issue of gas trap and later gas port M1icon rifles, their bayonet was the M1915 bolo that
had been already issued. Each member also had a Model 1911A1 pistol as issue too

found other caption for the photo:

    1) Philippine Scouts showing off battle captured Japaneseicon items after the Battle of the Points. Note the Scout in the back holding an M1icon

2)This handful of Philippine Scouts had just defeated a Japanese landing party when the picture was made on the Philippines’ Bataan Peninsula during the January – April 1942 campaign. (Library of Congress via Naval History and Heritage Command)
