    SRS check

I have a springfield 03 serial 975394 that came with a long story of how special it is. We all know the stories so I thought I would see if you guys can tell me the truth. Thanks a lot for any help.⁸

Not listed in SRS. Here are the closest numbers:

    975376 02/15/35 MAINE NG
975452 05/10/29 CO G CORPS OF CADETS USMA

Of course it can still be "special" and not be listed. How about some pictures and "the rest of the story".

Thanks for the info ,I really appreciate it. I posted a couple of pics when I first acquired this rifle, it looks like any other well used 03. The story was that it was a prototype marine sniper rifle. Another expert at the Dallas gun show was supposed to have been enthralled by it. The rifle had what looked like a threaded ring attached to the front of the receiver, I was finally able to pull the action and found it to be a ring that was slipped over the end of the receiver. The only thing that made me wonder is the fact at some time the rails were polished, the action is smooth as silk. It also has the trigger guard of a periscope rifle, it has a slot milled in the back for the pull line would run through. It shoots well and I like it but I had to get the check to be sure. I am sure you would like to know it has the sedgely usmc marked barrel, thanks again

Well, here's that thread from a while ago... https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=66862

Couple ways the barrel could have been changed, by someone with the parts to build this rifle or perhaps a WW2 rebuild. Very hard to say now days with all the "One off" guns being assembled by individuals for profit.

    S- USMC barrel

Barrel will have a date. 1941-1942 MAY have been installed by the Corps, or may not...But if it's a late 1942 or later, it most likely was NOT installed by the Marines. Marine rifles had their own peculiar list of traits. If the barrel is early, look for vise marks close to the receiver. Pipe fitter's vise, and they left DEEP grooves. Torqued the barrel into the vise and then torqued the receiver onto the immobilized barrel. Likely a machine shop on a Naval vessel...Stippled butt plate....Replacement stock with NO inspector's stamp, to name a few...
