    1903A3 Remington Stock

Hello-I have acquired a Remington stock from a family member and was looking for any additional info. My uncle had bought this rifle and put a sporterized stock on it and put the original stock in the closet. The gun is long gone. There is little info on the internet about all the identifying marks on the stock and would like to find out more info if anyone would care to share. Thanks.

Looks like the original rifle went through a rebuild, then the Frank J Atwood mark has the Raritan Arsenal mark and looks like there was something else between them? What would that have been? He probably selected the rifle for sporter because the metal was about new looking. You have an excellent start to bring a sporter or barreled action to life or sell to someone that does.

The RA is not from Raritan Arsenal - it was used on all later Remington M1903A3 stocks. Raritan Arsenal stamps are usually RA-P. The marking between the two stamps is probably an "ordnance belt", the symbol of the Army Orednance.
