There appears to be a certain amount of speculation surrounding the video's validity.

I am not a pilot but I would have expected the aircraft to drop down much further into the valley after take-off from the dam due to low air speed and insufficient lift from the wings.

Yes I have to agree, the aircraft coming into land was acceptable visually, but once it was on the dam wall the background looked staged, watch what happens to the drogue chute for instance it simply dissapears............looked good though

I still liked it. When I was still a skydiver, we had a Swissicon pilot come to Casale Monferrato’s airfield to show the last ultra-powerful version of the PC6 - Pilatus. I can’t remember how many hp it had, but it was horrendous. That guy parked the plane, gave full throttle and, when he released the brakes, the plane just went up… We couldn’t believe it. It seemed as if it were hanging from a rope. Great fun!!!

I had a friend in the USMC who was in Korea in Sept 1953 when a MIG 15bis suddenly landed at Kimpo Air Base in South Korea.
Piloted by Lt No Kum-Sok of North Korea who decided to escape and collect the $100,000 reward by the US Govt for the first
MIG 15 delivered intact. After a compete testing of this MiG 15, the US then offered to return it to the rightful owners, but
no county claimed the MIG 15 ! The pilot became a US Citizen and graduated from the University of Delaware

I once worked alongside a ex Canadianicon Air force Test pilot for a short while, who was among a team dispatched to Switzerland to test fly the incredible PC6, with a view to buying. I don't believe they ever did?

He ran through some of the Swiss demonstrations and thought many of the proposed short landings and takeoffs at various weights in the briefing were impossible .... Until he saw it with his own eyes!

An exceptional aircraft and in the right hands, capable of impossible looking short take off and landings.

If it was that easy to launch a fast jet the US wouldn't bother fitting catapults to it's carriers or steaming into wind for take-off and the UKicon wouldn't bother with ski-ramps. That Mig departing the top of the dam at only a few knots would have the aerodynamic properties of a lead balloon (i.e. zero lift).
