No 5 Jungle Carbine Forend Reinforcing Screws

I have 5 Jungle Carbines (all 1945) ]and two have screws in the forend that go through and have a nut on the other side. They are in front of the trigger guard. That’s we’re not done by “Bubba” and are nicely inletted and painted black. They match the piece and I never really noticed them. They appear Arsenal although the pieces do not have FTR marks.

Could not find any info on No 5s but it seems that Ishapores had them. A generic comment was that rifles made or shipped to India had this done to keep the forend from splitting.

I have not seen one with a bolt. Some Enfield No. 5, Jungle carbines may have the Ishy screw cut flush. It is a screw in the stock see this link:

Now, I has observed some Enfield Grenade wrapped rifles with a bolt and nut in the stock. However, the Jungle carbines and the .410 Indian Enfield SMLE shotguns have a steel screw that was cut flush to the stock---no nut. The screw has a slot for a flat tip screw driver.

Sounds "Indian service" I have to say, is there a round cartouche stamped on the butt, rather dark woodwork and over painted markings on the receiver?

Sounds like Indian Service, I've got a dozen in stock with the same screw, and Indian markings on the Butt.

Most still have the No5 Mk1 engraving / stamping intact, some have been refurbed and had all the originals markings cleaned off

My next question is on the converted No 4 to No 5 with the Cyprus marks. Bought mine in Hawaii when stationed there in 92. All the posts and gun forums from 10+ years ago are inconclusive on origin. Thanks"

Agree with Jim. They appear to be the standard screws fitted during refurb at RFI. I don't see any nuts.
