Found beat up German Luger dated 1911

Under barrel number 7680 882 also shows 8.0 in a few spots also has DWM ON TOP and side. Is this worth anything. See photos attached.

I'd just clean it and preserve it as is. Even if you had it re-blued, it would not remove the pitting. It is also worth more in its original condition. You can always send it to a good gunsmith to deep clean it, check its condition and determine if it is functional and safe to shoot. That pistol has seen some history and its condition shows it.

I think maybe I'd have it bead blasted and parkerized. This would at least "kill" the rust and prevent further degradation. The matte parkerized finish would also even out the overall look of the gun.

Then I'd shoot the snot out of it!

Yes it has value but as far as Lugers go, not much, but lugers go for a lot in most any condition. If it's a shooter there will be a market for it.

I found this 15 years ago in the basement rafters it was not buried it was Just laying there, It was rusted and nothing moved so I put it in a bucket of WD40 and forgot about it a year later I decided to look at it and i could move the trigger I can also pull the top piece back. Well after all those years everything is functional and the bore is clean when I found it it had a cloth rag down the barrel I also have matching magazine but it’s rusted bad and has a dent in it so can’t slide. I found that the trigger bar pin was stuck broken I know it’s removable but I could not remove the . All in all I’m waiting on a magazine and a trigger pin.

Were it mine I would go the electrolysis way to get all the rust off and parts working. Then gunsmith to ensure it is safe to shoot. If yes, then blue or similar and replace parts. Then shoot if possible. Etc

Dent in the magazine can be straightened, spring probably gone, electrolysis too.

7680 is the number. 882 should be 8,82 - the measured bore size.

If you want to smarten it up, use electrolytic cleaning, which does not remove any steel/iron, just rust.

Do use NOT bead blasting, which also removes some metal, and is thus is a good way of making any markings even more illegible.

I just uncovered another number on the front of the handles and it reads RS2 186. Anybody?
