Very Early Inland M1 Carbines

If your a member of the Carbine Collectors Club you probably have seen the Outstanding article that Dan Pinto did showcasing this very early Pre-Production(?) Inland SN 270 and I thought I'd share it here on MilSurps as well due to its amazing uniqueness.

It has a number of never before seen Pre-Production parts, and other than its unmarked (production test piece?) Type 3 Hammer and its Underwood Replacement Stock that has no Ordinace acceptance cartouches or Circle P, all metal parts are from its early 1942 birth.

Whats so amazing to me is that this Inland Carbine is number 270 of the 2,625,591 Carbines that Inland made, and its Receiver was produced in the very first Month (June 1942) and its 5-42 barrel was the very first made of the 6.1 Million M1 Carbines that were made in the following 37 Months.

Still figuring out how to post pics on this Forum (and I did read the tutorial :-)

Left to Right of Pics above;
-Bolt Lug=Slide Cam interface (amazing tolerance)
-Bolt Lug with rounded off rear cam angle that slides perfectly in the odd shaped Slide cam channel
-Early Inland Trigger Housing with No Hammer Spring/Plunger Rod Recess
-Bolt Face (compare this to your Inland IO Marked early Bolt face)
-Production Type 2 Inland Slide Cam on Left, 270's never seen Slide Cam on right (looks like a Garand's Slide Cam)
-On left is Magazine Well with never seen short rails. On right is P stamp where there's normally Ordnance Bomb stamp
-On left is Pre Production Rear Leaf sight for 1941 slower velocity ammo. On right is Production leaf sight for 1942 increased velocity ammo
-Inland 5-42 barrel (and what I meant in my original post was this was among the first barrels Inland made)
-Inland 270

Imagine how much work went into getting that fit between the bolt lug and receiver. That would probably be one of the first changes? Square it off and harden both parts.....bingo!
