    My Only M1917

    Of all my USGI Military Rifles this is my heaviest, and is one of my most favored for its War Beast look :-) Its an all correct great shooter that kicks like a Mule and I can see why Sgt Alvin York made sure he Hit every time he pulled the Trigger!

    Nice looking rifle, wish I had one again. I had about three back in the '70s when we could get them in the grease new.

    Stock Cartouches?

    Can someone help explain what the different stock stamps reflect?

    S.A.A. (in a Box)
    E (in a Box)
    O.G.E.K. (in a box)
    OZ (behind trigger and above the P in a Box)

    Shouldn't have recoil like that. Are you holding it correctly?

    Well compared to my M-16 shooting days, and my 30 caliber carbine Shooting, the 30’06 kicks :-)

    I found information in the search field for all of the stock cartouches except for the;

    E in square box which I assume would just mean Eddystone?

    OZ That’s between the trigger and the square P.

    The boxed E is more likely a post war sub inspector. I've never seen it before

    Well that’s very interesting.

    Does anybody have an idea on what the O with the / thru it followed by the Z stamp is on the stock just behind the trigger guard?

    I’m still curious if anybody’s ever seen the OZ initials stamped into the stock like on my rifle? It’s just above the P in a box behind the Trigger Housing screw (picture above) and I assume it’s another inspectors stamp, but I haven’t seen it referenced in any other M1917‘s.
