1919 "Autograph Book"
I recently came across this autograph book which my late grandmother received as a 15th birthday present in August 1919. Looking through it some of the cartoon pictures/images that friends have drawn and painted are really quite good. None of it has been seen publicly before and sadly, now, none of those that have drawn or written in the book are with us any more.

We've got one or two of those around the place. It was a widespread custom that I assume faded out between the wars for some reason. The nurses and VAD's of the WWI era must have had many; in fact I recall one on eBay years ago that looked very interesting.

Yes, I've probably got some more that I haven't found yet. There were a number of what would best be described "romantic messages" to my gran in the book, from male friends, that I thought best to keep private. I assume that my gran didn't show the messages to her father because she was still legally classed as a child at the time, being under 21 and her father could have a short fuse, at times, and probably wouldn't have reacted well if he had read them.
