    L42 new purchase

Hello, I recently purchased this L42 rifle with transit chest and canvas bag. Would like to get some feed back on the rifle and if anyone has any info on the canvas case, was this canvas case made for a L42 rifle? I had the serial number checked on this site, Serial number AT 0284 is on the list. Serial number on the wrist has been re-stamped at some point.

    Thanks,
    Paul

As far as I was aware there were 2 types of canvas cases, I have one style and photos of the other although neither look anything like yours. It also looks from the photos it’s too new to be issued and used.

Photo of my L42 and CES with soft carry case.
No idea if it is 'correct' but thats what it came with.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Nice rifle NWE. I am sure the original serial number was AT prefixed & it got misinterpreted as an AI prefix, probably when it was over engraved, most likely at the time of its conversion or at a FTR at some point.

Looks a very nice and honest rifle, I think the case is an American 1903 case, which look very similar to the Britishicon L42 case (in green).

Chosenman did an excellent article on them

Nice rifle although be prepared to dig deep into the wallet for an original bottle - plastic and brush - lense when they come up for sale they get ridiculous prices for them, so too the 3 draw scout spotting scopes and case, the small legged scope mount also commands a good price tag.
