An interesting day at the auction

Spent all day yesterday (from 7am to 4pm) at a gun, accessories and accoutrements auction which consisted of 930 lots.
The auction (Covid 19 allowing) happens every 2 to 3 months and they usually have a good selection of military bits and pieces.

Just thought I'd report on todays auction as it looked as it someone was having a clear out of all their old Enfield stuff.

A summary of the main parts of interest :

Note - all sale prices need to have a 30% buyers premium added so a 'hammer price of £50 means the 'out of the door' price is £65

Lot 4 = Two .303 Enfield barreled actions. dated 1896 Grade 3. Both marked as SHTLE 1 (no star) one was LSA and the other EFD. Sold at £10

Lot 6 = Two Lee Enfield .22 Trainer receivers. marked "MkIV" dated 1916 BSA. Sold at £25

Lot 38 = The major parts (basically complete rifles) of six 303 SMLE Grade 4. Condition was "severe rusting" Rusted solid. All No1 MK3 complete with cut offs. Sold at £180

Lot 62 = Ten Lee Enfield 303 barrels Grade 2. Condition varied from 'poor' to excellent and included 1x H (Lithgow) barrel with others varying from almost no rifling to 'as-new'. 1 barrel was slightly bent. Sold at £300.

Lot 63 = Three Lee Enfield 7.62 'heavy' barrels Grade 2. Good condition, almost 'as new'. Sold at £20

Lot 65 = Two military receivers 1x No1 MkV and a P14 Grade 2. Sold at £45

Lot 66 = Eight barrelled receivers six x SMLE, 1x P14, 1x K98 Grade 2 ' fair condition'. Sold at £100

Lot 67 = Two 7.62 barrelled receivers (both Fazakerly) One was a PF serial number Grade 2. Good condition. Sold at £130

Lot 68 = Twenty Five barrelled receivers. 23x SMLE, 1x No4 and 1x No2 MkIV. Condition Extremely poor, everything pretty much rusted up solid. (Made the RTI rifles look like brand new). Sold at £280

Lot 69 = Twenty Five 303 bolts (presumably belonging to lot 68). A bag of rusty metal. Sold at £100

Lot 70 = Sporterised SMLE with scope, a Long Lee in 410 shotgun, a Winchester S,L,R. Sold at £60

Lot 78 = A 303 North African Enfield Martini with silver decorations and silver barrel bands and a .22lr BSA Training rifle. Sold at £5

Lot 129 = Eleven Long Lee / Metford receivers. 3x EFD 1903 SHTLE 1, 2x EFD 1895 1*, 2x EFD 1900 1*, 2x BSA no date no markings (didn't get time to look at the other two) Nice clean condition covered in oil. Sold at £80

Lot 201 = Nine unused No4 Butt Stocks (N-Size) and five 'in the wrap' brass butt plates. Sold at £70

Lot 326 = .22lr Martini Enfield converted by Bonehill. marked "S.M.R.C. Special" dated Enfield 1880. Sold at £160

Lot 364 = A 7.62 No4 Mk1 with Tunnel foresight, rear sight missing. Sold at £20

Lot 479 = A 410 Shotgun converted No4. Sold at £120.

Lot 605 = 303 P14 with original sights and volley sights. Sold at £450

Lot 612 = 303 SMLE MkIII smooth bore. Sold at £100

Lot 638 = 150 rounds 303 dated 1953. Sold at £30

100's of shotguns with many single barrel ones selling at £1 to £5 (or for example 1x 410, 1x 20 gauge, 1x 12 gauge bundle at £10)

100s of sporting rifles with 'cheap' 22lr rifles at around £20 to 'special' quality rifles at £2000+

Many 'cans' of powders by Hodgdon, Vihtavouri, Norma, Hercules, Vectan, BPD, Norma etc.


My 'buy of the day' was 100 rounds of Mk9Z BLANKS at the magnificent sum of £5

Was hoping a THEOBEN air rifle would be there but not this time, plenty to choose from though, and the blanks are probably rare these days certainly in their original box!

Roger,
The trouble is Sec 1 Air weapons of that quality are few and far between. They originated in a village near me, they did a massive move of premises increasing right across the board, and then went downhill very quickly thereafter. Such a great little company, whose products will most probably rise in price as a result.
