First pic is the upper third of the barrel, towards the muzzle. Second one is halfway down.
Next, I'll soak the piston in kroil, gas port down and angled down at the muzzle to help flush any dust or jb-paste into the bore to be swabbed out later.
Degreasing now to remove all the old lubricants and grime, then drying, re-oiling, etc.

Mag release: IH, M on the side.
Started re-oiling the stock. Wood was full of grease and oil. I scrubbed it lacquer thinner and steel wool to get it all out. After it dried, wiping the first coat of raw linseed oil on it showed what was left of the ordnance stamp just in front of NPM, and some letters someone scratched in the butt. I'll take some pictures once its dry.
Hey charlie, his bolt has an H marked left lug with an A underneath it and instead of reviving an old thread that is 13 pages back, I figured I would mention this to see if this bolt helps you along any further in the research you were doing on that thread. can't tell if his bolt has the x marking on it though.hth

Another topic - from your signature block, my dad was Chesty's driver at one point. He was issued dress blues sometime after returning from Vietnam and serving out the remainder of his enlistment just to drive Chesty back and forth to the hospital.
Unfortunately I'm horrible with links but the title of it is on page 13 called"questions about LFT lug markings on AOB bolts".hth, that's incredibly cool about your father being chesties driver! As you know old chesty was a legend in his own time. Imagine the stories they both could tell?
