Jim, what about Mini-14 and Mini-30 up there? They have 18.5" barrels.

I remember years ago my Father would take us and friends goose hunting in Ontario. No big hassle.
Today if you can get by the US Dept of Homeland Security, Border control, ICE, background checks and only God knows who else to make it to the Canadian border. Once at the border then deal with the Canadian Border Services agency with all the pre-prepared paperwork, then inspections. Plus figuring out your licenses and restricted areas. It's crazy and just not worth it. And now we have Covid restrictions.
Just fishing got so complicated years back we gave it up. I can hunt Geese here but sure miss Fishing out north of Prince Albert. Fished Quebec but was robbed, the back country locals didn't care for Americans eating their fish.

I recall a friends Dad heading up with his older buddies when the RCMP / Border law found a empty .22 casing under the seat. They were detained for nearly 20hrs while that new truck's interior was stripped. Including the dashboard.
When we heard about it later on none of us had the ba!!s to tell them it was us that had shot .22 pistols from inside the cab. We missed a case while policing the interior.

Imagine in 10 years it will be like crossing the Berlin Wall.
I feel for my northern friends and miss that beautiful country.

Use to make a motorcycle tour of western Canadaicon every year. After taking two hours to get across the border last time (complete with dope sniffing dog routine), had to give it up.

If only our southern border was as tight.

I used to love going up to BC. Vancouver was one of the most beautiful cities on the planet, clean, safe, reasonably priced. Taxes were weird, you paid more for a bottle of cheap wine than the whole salmon dinner. $35 for a case of beer. I understand that it is a filthy mess now. Awful drug problems.

They used to have these border skirmishes where US side would close up all of the checkpoints to screw with Canadians. I was sitting in a long line of ****ed off Canadians waiting, when the US border guy steps out of the booth sees my Calif. plates and motions me to come up to the closed booth. This was jumping the line on about 15 Canadianicon cars waiting to cross and buy cigarettes. He said "Do you have anything from THAT country?" I said no and he motioned me through. The horns started honking like a flock of geese.

We used to make a journey to Vancouver to tour the pawn shops along Granville back in the '70's and buy M1icon carbines for about $125CDN. You could get all the makers and every possible combination of features you wished. $125CDN was a lot when I was only getting $175CDN per pay...

In the 1980s I was a cop in the Seattle area. We regularly went to Vancouver , Stanley park and the zoo, and points north. Vancouver was a beautiful city back then as you say. Our Boy Scouts participated in the annual celebration at the Peace Arch. My wife got a picture of me joking around and swapping LEO stories with the MountieS and even them handcuffing me LOL. It was much different then.

Yep, and no one else seems to mind. They do that. I think it's expired anyway.
