So if anyone wants that case send him to me first as I have the live round... Pretty ridiculous for a half decayed case.

I have a small collection of early 303 cartridges, but really not interested in the one posted above (even if it was complete!)

Seeing how the Z designator for nitro cellulose loaded ammo was introduced long after the Mk III ball was obsolete this is a "highly speculative" interpretation of this hs.

Suspect the seller wouldn't want to know anyway, but the headstamp to me looks more like it may be K39 VIIIZ or K39 BIIIZ. Either way, not a (broken) 303 case worth a grand.

.....................................Or is it just K39 VII Z?

Is it broken at the shoulder? Or is it a .410 case?

Difficult to say........could be either, but I think it is much more likely to be a standard case broken off at the neck. I've spent most of my life visiting firing ranges & battlefields picking this stuff up, & when the brass deteriorates & the round breaks into two, it is almost invariably at the neck/shoulder, with the bullet & the detached neck separating from the rest of the case. And with fired rounds the case is thin, fragile & exposed here, so again, the necks tend to break away.

I also just had a quick look at what types of 303 based cartridges Kynoch produced, & I could not see the shot cartridges listed for the original Witton Birmingham plant, only K2, which was the plant set up near Wigan.
