S/N stamped over different S/N on bolt on M96

I have a m96 that was supposedly all #'s matching. This is an early model made in Germanicon factory. All #'s on rifle look fine but bolt has rifle matching #'s stamped over different #'s. Did the armorers ever do this or have I been scammed. Beautiful rifle with pristine bore so I hate to send it back if it is legit but over stamp is obvious and I hate getting scammed. I have ordered a field no go gauge for it to check headspace. Cheap insurance. Thanks

post some pictures. Most armorers never did a stamp over. The numbers were crossed out the new numbers stamped next to original.

"All #'s on rifle look fine but bolt has rifle matching #'s stamped over different #'s."

Sounds dodgy. To confirm and indeed emphasize the comment by mmppres: If a part was recycled, standard practice was to line out old numbers and stamp the new number close by. In my experience, numbers were never erased or overstamped, as this would conflict with the requirement for traceability. Of course, once the gun had left the military recording system, traceability was no longer a must... draw your own conclusions.
