OMEGA, SWISS MONTRE DE TIR, SHOOTING PRIZE WATCH

Hi all and a very Happy New year to you all...

We bought my Father in Law an Omega Swissicon Montre De Tir Shooting Prize pocket Watch for his 80th.

Dating from the early 20th century, it features a Swiss Rifleman on the back with his Schmidt-Rubin.

Can anyone provide any background to the annual Swiss shooting competition (I assume a Militia competition) and does it still run?

    John,
I have emailed you some of the history on the competition, which the Germanicon side of my family could never win. The prizes speak for themselves, and if you bought one of the Emilio Somazzi, of Lugano cases signed by L. Vassigli, you can name your price here in the UKicon, they are really collectable, but obvioulsy less fashionable these days.
On the reverse will be a rifleman holding the rifle. Well done getting it for your father in law a great 80th present.

Meant to add.........I was always told they only made 100 watches every four years which is why they are so valuable, and my Great Great Grandfather on the German side who shot for the Army took part in the Federal Shooting Exhibition (competition) 1913!!.
60,000 from all over the world took part in 2000 to give you some idea.
