    No.5 MKI restoration

    Hello, I am back!
So, the elusive original No.5 MKI is difficult to find since it's been copied, Frankenstein, No.4 hacked and so on.
I am going to restore a battlefield rifle, and the English manufacturer Fazakerley is what I'm working with to restore this back to the factory. I definitely have a difficult path ahead of me, since it's a rare firearm.

    So on with the show.

The parts that are needed are located in Europe mostly. Find Fazakerley exclusively is even going to be more difficult.

The receiver and barrel match up. No butchery, Frankenstein etc.

The cosmolineicon is dripping from the barrel.

And I have another problem, the stock has been carved on, and I don't know what to with it.

I don't know the history of the carving so do I find a replacement stock? Is it a important part of the rifle? Any input would be helpful.

Could that be the Russianicon Star ? and we are seeing the "Z" on the Russian vehicles invading Ukraine - maybe there is some 'history' in your stock.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Why are you building a carbine up from scratch? They're available complete. Yes if you wish a new stock set, we have a group in Canadaicon that make them from walnut new. The guys you're chastising are also an excellent source of parts...

First thing, A lot the Enfield no.5 has been butchered and sold, you buy one and it may be a POS. People have sanded stocks, retrofitted number four stocks. Barrels are shot out, retrofitted no.4, just junk. The headspace could be a issue, and so many of the no.5 are basically junk. I want a authentic, 100% no.5 Fazakerley rifle no aftermarket Frankenstein junk.

Surely your terminology is flawed - "No5 Restoration" tends to imply you are going to restore an existing 'rough' rifle (repair splits in the furniture, remove rust etc etc), but what you are proposing to do is to build a 'new' rifle from an assortment of parts, in effect, a clone-No5.

Do you really think that your 'Bitsa' No5 rifle would be considered by anyone to be authentic ?

I built a No1 Mk3* from a body with components sourced from all over the world, all of the components are No1 Mk3 (or 3*) components but it is a real Bitsa and I would be ridiculed if I claimed otherwise.

Folks, let's keep it on track and stay out of politics. And a personal request: if you see political material in posts, report the post and move on. Quoting a post with forbidden topis just adds work to the moderators. Thanks a boonch.

    Why?
ROF Fazakerley didn't exactly have a great reputation when they were making the things new.... it was Liverpool after all , and many of them had to be fixed or rebuilt by the REME Armourers once arrived in service, and the Army wasn't anal about factory matched parts either, if it worked it was good to go, no matter what factory the bits came from.
Many of the parts used would have been sent to Faz from other contractors, so a Faz No.5 wouldn't neccessarliy consist of all Faz made parts.....there was a war on you know!
