A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Steyr assembled rifle, using a Gustloff-Werke made receiver (bcd stamp) which were hand-stamped with the additional Steyr code bnz below the bcd stamp.
It may have had something to do with the major bombing of the Steyr factory by the USAAF as part of 'big-week' in early 1944, which likely had an effect on getting some of the stuff back up and running.....hence the short term supply of already stamped receivers by Gustloff-Werke for a while perhaps?? Can't recall ever reading about a reason tbh.......so just guessing. They are quite rare I believe.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

GeeRam thank you for the help. I had never run across that when looking at auctions.
