Colt factory five round magazine block

This magazine has the Colt factory magazine block to limit the magazine to five cartridges for hunting game. This magazine came with a Colt SP 1 Sporter in the three digit serial range. it is very easy to remove or insert, most of these inserts were discarded and are not common to find now.

In 1971 I purchased a Colt SP1 (1st kid on the block to have one) and the two magazine that came with it had those blocks in them. First thing I did was pull them out and restore the twenty-round capacity. Lost or threw away the blocks. Later magazine blocks were riveted in place.
My SP1 also came with an original Edgewater buffer. Replaced it with a newer one in 73. Saw the price of an original Edgewater last year and remembered the old adage: If hindsight were foresight!

I had one of those appear not so longa ago and since we have to block our mags, did most of mine that way. If you drill at the drain hole in the bottom you can rivet the whole affair so it's as permanent as it could possibly be...for those of us that have to.

    Edgewater buffer

BEAR, there was a "new" Edgewater buffer on gunboards auction that was bid up to $500.00 back in Jan 2022, not sure what the final price ended up.

I understand most M16icon's had it replaced by 1969, not sure how long in the Colt AR-15 Sporters ?
