    French Remington Rolling Block Bayonet

Here's a bayonet i didn't realize I needed until I spotted it on an alternate auction site.

While I collect any and all bayonets, I concentrate on WWI and WWII examples, and I did not make the connection of this one being a WWI bayonet until I researched it after finding the auction. Now unfortunately I need to find the rifle.

It's for the No 5 Remington Rolling Block in 8mm made for France in 1915-1916, 100,000 made. This is a long version of the shorter bayonet made for their other rolling blocks. The Union Metallic Cartridge Co addition to the marking is what identifies this as part of the Frenchicon contract. This was the last military contract for the rolling block rifle.

LOL, it appears the rifles do not exist. Not a bite on Gunbroker in completed listings. Just the bayonet.

Forgotten Weapons did a video so they did exist.

Just taken one in today, it was sold as a 8mm Danishicon Rolling Block, but when it turned up it was a Frenchicon example. Not the best example but rare rifle none the less

From the UKicon? I don't think that's possible.

It isn't. The US requires an importer license to import firearms. Not sure how that affects antiques, but a Frenchicon rolling block is not an antique, made after 1898 in 1915 and 1916. My Berdan II which was imported by RTI does not have an import mark. Not sure if that means it was missed or it didn't need one. It is an antique. My various rifles from IMA also lack import marks so I assume antiques do not require it.

There are exceptions for servicemen returning home. There are a few Afghan bring backs of old firearms, no automatics however.

Yeah, I think you're beating a dead horse. Not saying under the right circumstances for the right price I wouldn't try to make a deal but I can't say I've heard a lot of good things about Joe Salter and from what I understand, he's way more pricey than I want to deal with. I really haven't investigated him much but his name has popped up here and there over the years.
