I keep asking myself if inflation is really this bad. I bought my first NIW mags at a gun show ~25 years ago for $5 IIRC. They were all over gun shows for $10-15 for years.
But as recently as a year ago I scored 10 NIW for $20 each. I probably should have bought the other 30 but I have more than enough for my needs.

Used to buy USGI magazines in the wrap for $2-$3 dollars each. I looked at a sealed case of 100 magazines priced at $100.00 at a local gun show. Almost talked myself into it but thought why? I had all the magazines I wanted and they were for sale everywhere NIW.

I still see 15 round mags for $15-20. No way would I pay that much for them. I have at least 40 mags now, maybe more. But I also have a lot more than just a couple of carbines.

Yikes! The carbine magazines are a wear item. The life of the magazine is the life of those two bumps on the back. Other magazines like the M14/M16 will run until they get bent up enough to jam and could still be salvaged. I assume that that's why they made so many of them?

You can salvage, or even extend the useful life of a carbine mag by filling the hollow depressions left when forming the mag catch "nibs" with a silver bearing solder rendering them effectively solid. You'll have to carefully file off any excess, or raised portions so that the bottom of the "nibs" are flat again. I've done this on a few mine, and it really does help prevent the deformation and wear.

When inserting a mag I push the magcatch in from right to left.
Same way when I release them.
I just try to be easy on them. I'm in no fire fight.
I have plenty, but usually just take 6-8 to the range unless there are more shooting than just me.
I use the same dozen or so all the time and just try to keep them clean with the inside sprayed with silicone.
