    Mills Holster

Found this picture while accompanying my wife to an "Antique Mall." I've found that perusing the old stereoviews has rewards in that the stereoviews cover both the Spanish-American War and WWI. This is the first time I've seen the woven Mills Holster for the M1911 on a military member. This is at the Great Lakes Training Center sometime early in the war. Not sure of the belt, looks like small pockets. The sailors being inspected are holding M1903s.

The holster shown in the old photo was for the .38 revolver, and was adopted by the Navy.
The Mills holster shown below if for the 1911.

And the belt holds individual rounds (6) in each snap pouch. I can't tell exactly which Mills belt it is, as there were varied designs with different numbers of pouches.

I've looked closer at the picture (much clearer than the scanned image I posted), and I can see the revolver handle. And comparing the holster in the Great Lakes Training Center photo with Johnny Pepper's picture, you can see the differences. My error, but still a nice WWI photograph.
