    Carl Gustav 1903 Swedish Mauser

I found this cutie at the Raleigh show last weekend. A 1903 Swedishicon Mauser in 6.5x55. Very clean shape, crisp grasping grooves, a few dings but nothing major. It was 700.00 but I walked away to look at the rest of the show, when I returned the guy sold it to me for 600.00 plus 2 boxes of ammo and a sling from another mauser rifle as it was my birthday. Rifling is there but I haven’t gotten around to cleaning it. Had the weird thread protector on the muzzle but has two offset holes on the recvr bridge. I’m guessing for a diopter sight not an American Lyman. Anyone have a guess to the dia and tpi for a couple of filler screws? Other than a crazy strong mainspring and a few light spots on the stock I love it. I’ve got rcbs reloading dies, a bullet mould, .266 bullet sizer and case building stuff ordered. Should be a honey though I’m not sure about the straight bolt handle and a bent handle might be in its future once I figure out how it shoots. Btw is the safety supposed to be red?

Hi Ed, no, the safety should not be red. Other than that, the rifle looks good.
The pictures are very small, but it seems to be really ok.
I would look for the right diopter before closing the two holes. Those gats are tack drivers with a good diopter.
I just don't remember if that drilling pattern is for some of the originally intended diopters or not.
