    Passing of Larry Ruth, RIP

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Larry L. Ruth on May 1st, at age 82 after a battle with cancer. Larry was one of the earliest pioneers of carbine collecting and author of the first large book on the design, development and production history of the M1icon Carbine in 1979.

This first book was based largely on documentation that Larry had copied at the National Archives over the course of several years…and was typed in its entirety by his ever patient and loving wife Jacque!

Larry remained a focused student of the M1 Carbine over the decades and published 3 more encyclopedia-sized books, as well as a carbine user’s handbook co-authored with Scott Duff.

He was a friend to all carbine collectors, and his intense interest in carbine studies remained strong throughout his entire adult life. We are indebted to his dedication in providing historical information to us.

It is safe to say that no one person has contributed more to carbine collectors worldwide than Larry Ruth did. May his soul rest in peace.

    Larry Ruth

So sorry to hear about his death. My sympathies to his family. I see him as a standard in all of my carbine collecting.

I have many of his books and have used them as a standard in my work. A great man has passed.

It makes me take inventory as I am 82.

Very sad to hear that, unfortunately many of the individuals who have really done the hard yards and are in fact the very foundation of our collective interest, are reaching a certain age...

At least Larry leaves a wonderful body of work behind him for future generations to enjoy...

I consider War Baby 1 and 2 as enjoyable reading as well as reference material. The story of the carbine is a fascinating read and it shows America at its finest. No other country could build 6+M rifles in such a short time and all parts will interchange. It used what was available and got the job done. Larry wrote a great book and his legacy will live on for many decades to come.
