Any Aldis Scope spare parts out there?

I have just received the Aldis 4th pattern that I bought at auction (GB). it has good lenses but is missing the erector and reticle assembly / components. Are there any scope spares out there? I will be looking for options and to also make new parts as necessary and practical. Photos and other info to follow..

    Cheers!

I think I know the one you are referring to. While I cannot help you with the parts, if you didn't recognize it, the mount on the scope is a Wiener Schnäppermontage, an Austrian hunting scope mounting system from WWI/post WWI era.

Thanks Promo - I may sweat the existing mounts off the tube as part of its rehab. I still have to decide if I take this the SMLE or P14 route - or other...

Here is the tube and parts from the sellers listing. I put the lenses back in the right orientation and the magnification and view was greatly improved.

From the mounts I'd suspect it was a WWI trophy that was re-used post-war (on a sporter obviously). Over the years several such turned up on ebay.de, and one or two absolutely pristine sets as well. An awful lot of kit was simply abandoned in March-April 1918 during the collapse of the 5th Army.

I think it is rather unlikely that an Austrian took a Britishicon sniper scope as trophy, but who knows ..

Not really the scenario I was referring to it's true, but not impossible.

Stuff does get traded around post-war, particularly in conditions of hyper-inflation, and Austriaicon's not that far from Germanyicon.

ArtioZen, I've never torn one down, but knowing the preference for "making do", I wouldn't be surprised if these Aldis scopes have some lenses common to their rifle scopes. Interesting lead tag attached for "Armament Inspection Department"(?) I'd guess these were used on large Adlis signalling lamps, but as those were all(?) for naval use and the RN had their own inspectorates etc., it's a minor mystery.

These are very basic telescopes and the parts are simple to make on a lathe. Simple, if you have a pattern to work to of course. Same as the lenses if you can ascertain the optical spec or do what others - including me - have done. Start by using a cheap and cheerful No32 erector cell assembly and work from there
