Krag M1898/03 First Time At The Range

So I loaded up a bunch of rounds and brought the Kragicon to the range after an extensive breakdown and cleaning. These rifles have an excellent reputation for accuracy and this one didn't disappoint.

The load formula is new Hornady brass, Federal 210 primers, 41.3gr IMR 4350 topped with a Hornady 180gr Spitzer. I didn't chrono it this time but according to the book it should be right around 2100fps which is the standard Army ball velocity. Obviously the rifle likes this formula a lot and ill be refilling the spent cases with the same thing. Brass came out of the chamber looking pretty much as it went in with no signs of stress whatsoever.

The 2 low rounds were finding the poa which I assumed would be low for a high poi, wrong. Using the rear peep set to 100 yards it was dead on and gave this 5 round group you see here. This may become another favorite range toy. I've been collecting a bunch of those lately. Please ignore the 22's I had to kill time until the end of the range session so I could get this picture.
Not bad for a 119 year old rifle.
