DLA is 1978 to early '90's. Yours was made in July of '83 based on the 837. I believe anyway. It is a bit confusing.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Yes, it's original. We too had those on issue in the '80s until the M1icon helmet went out.

We have a show with a "Military Collectibles" theme coming up in Portland later this month. I may take it along. Are these worth around $10 US, or would you up the price a bit? Thanks! - Bob

I'll have to check to see if I could use it. I have some helmets but don't recall what's on them. It's a little early for me, although if counting ROTC it would be good. I wasn't actually issued a helmet until 85. It's the correct pattern. We never got the chocolate chip even when in Saudi. We got the uniforms and booney hats but never the helmet covers. There is some debate if Chocolate chips were ever issued with the M1icon helmet. They exist but no one is sure if they are real or made up by China.

I checked my helmet and it's perfect for me March of 1985. Right around the time I joined a Reserve Unit to force my commission branch. I wanted Ordnance, they wanted me in Chemical and weren't giving me the choice (biology major). So, I joined a Maintenance Company which only had Ordnance slots. Problem solved. I ended up going to NBC school anyway after Ordnance but I was Ordnance branch.
