A New Auction for an A4

An auction recently started on Gunbroker, #936628444 for an A4. A bit strange!! X'ed off the 3 in A3 and added a 4?! What would prompt some one to do that? It appears to be an authentic A4 receiver, barrel, & bolt and even the staked Redfield base. Scant stock & Sc guard.

What do you guys think? I have no interest in it other than curiosity.

Sometimes a 4 was added when it was rebuilt.

I am surprised. With the interest in A4's expressed in this forum, I thought sure that there would be a lot of comments about this rifle.

Do you mean arsenal rebuilds, or private owner rebuild? The latter is very believable. In fact I've seen many drilled and tapped regular A3's with the 3 x'd out and a 4 stamped in. First I've ever seen or heard of it happening with arsenal rebuilds. Happy to learn more if you can point to the sources.

It's been a bit slower than before the recent great milsurps blackout, and with only legacy or contributing members allowed to post now (is that still the case?). Also, I expect many like me are just too lazy to go somewhere else to search for info and pics about a rifle - I only have so many seconds to glance at a post during the workday, and those that are the easiest/convenient to mull details over in the back of my mind during the day get priority for preserving my interest until the evening when I can dig more.

Using the hyperlink feature to point to the auction would have driven more interest, and even more if harvesting the pictures here directly.

It sold for $2,875 + $75 shipping + 1% Gunbroker fee + sales tax + 4% if a credit card was used. Pretty good price!

Looks to me like the bolt handle notch is too wide. Could that be a modified A3 stock?
