Original Barrel on an 11'42 Receiver?

    Hey all,

Just looking for some feedback on a November '42 Springfield M1icon Garand.

Photographs of the barrel are provided here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Photographs of the rest of the rifle: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

The rifle is all correct, with an exception of the bolt (-12SA W10B appeared in mid '43 unless I am mistaken since W9B shows up around August '42) and *potentially* the lockbar sights, which are Type II. Serial 1000000, also built in November, has Type I; this one built ~6,000 later has Type II. It's my understanding that according to Scott Duff, the change was announced on November 14, but the change would not have been immediate.

The chamber does not appear to be parkerized and the date on the barrel matches that of the receiver and is interesting in that the stamp appears to have bounced. The lower band pin does appear to still be in the rifle, but it looks like it has two strikes: one on the bottom, and one on the side.

Does the appearance of two strikes retaining the lower band pin mean that the barrel is not original to the rifle?

Looking for any and all feedback.

    Thank you!

    Respectfully,
    - Michael

Some nice little details, a solid handguard pin...and you have a front sight seal. Not so many of those survived. A double strike you ask about is just a security measure if the pin was coming adrift. I doubt that barrel was changed. Nice uncut op rod, and you have an M1923 sling. Not so regular. Also a single slot gas cylinder lock screw, nice. I wonder if you have a round firing pin? Have you looked? Might be a thought to see. That was probably change number one but they can still be found intact. They had a tendency to break at the very front. They're also worth a pile of cash. Looks like those parts have been together a long time.

    Others will be along...nice rifle.
    Regards, Jim

if you could post some photos of the drawing number on top of the barrel under the rear handguard, it would
help to identify your barrel. Not common to see the barrel date obliterated but it could happen.

you have a combination of new and refinished parts with used parts which detracts from the appearance
(example: the rear handguard and lower band are too light in color) Believe SA EMcF stock should have the
tapered clip latch cut - not the square bottom, but stocks are quite rare from this period and often faked.
