    What's the SMG.

Two local Italianicon nurses dress injuries for two Britishicon soldiers in front of the Cathedral of Sant'Agata in Via Vittorio Emanuele II, Catania, Sicily. August 5, 1943.

Soldier on the left what is the SMG he is carrying!

Beretta Modello 38, 9mm. Looks like he got a battlefield pickup.

It's one of the Carcano variants but I can't see enough details of it to discern... All you can see clearly is the sling swivel and butt plate.

Appears to have the fixed rear sight of the M38?

Years ago I saw a bring back Beretta 38 with "HILDE" carved in fraktur script on the right of the butt.

I knew a chap who served in Italy as well as NW Europe. He quite liked the Italianicon 6.5 rifles.

You can see the front of the rifle magazine and those sights were pretty much standard. I had a Vetterly that had no rear sight so I used a Carcano sight and soldered it on.

Wondering if it's the M38 Short 6.5 Carcano caliber rifle?

So the question is where are their issued weapons as most of their squad will have Commonwealth ammunition not really likely to be carrying 6.5 ammo someone may have a Sten or pistol with 9mm!
