I have this incoming. (Seller's pictures) The thing it seems to most resemble is the spring retainer plate fitted for parachute jumps, but the bits sticking out are rather odd and it also looks thicker than normal. The seller seems to be selling off relic gun parts dug out of a dump pit.
All suggestions gratefully accepted.

Un-assembled parts sold off as scrap post-war? With the Patchett / Sterling coming on-line, all manner of odd bits were probably sent to an ignominious fate; dumped at sea, melted down, etc.
It's arrived and as I had a hunch, the bit sticking out at the top appears to be a sling attachment loop. It's gone off for a bath in Evaporust and when it's clean I'll see how well it fits to a gun.

The other brew that removes rust "passively" is a 50 / 50 mix of distilled water and Molasses. The latter can be found found at all good farm supply shops.
My late Dad used it for years to clean up bits of the various "vintage" vehicles he worked on.
ONLY for ferrous material; that brew does nasty things to Zinc or Aluminium alloys. Not much remains of a die-cast carburetor body after a few weeks in that stuff.
You can use the "exhausted" bath on your garden, too, unlike more "industrial" concoctions.
