There was a "story" years ago that one of the 22-06 M1 rifles was sent by mistake on a DCM rifle sales

They also experimented with Triplex, three projectiles. IIRC it was called the Salvo Program.
Real men measure once and cut.

.30-06 SALVO DUPLEX AND TRIPLEX
Duplex and Triplex. Produced by Winchester during the SALVO program (1952-1961). The duplex load consists of two GMCS jacketed 96 gr projectiles while the triplex load consists of three 60 gr projectiles. Note that the base of the rear bullet is canted. This was done to induce random dispersion in each shot. The triplex load is identified by a short red tip. The duplex load is headstamped WCC 58 and the triplex is headstamped WCC 57.

Must have taken some work to get the loads right. Looking at the powder right up to the neck in front of the bullets.

7,62x51 Duplex M198 cartridge
This was developed to provide two bullets of around 85 grs each in a cartridge case. The bottom bullet was slightly off-set. These green tip M198 cartridges saw limited use in Viet Nam, mostly in machine guns.
A spin-off of the Duplex M198 was developed by using just one of the 85 gr bullets which was changed to a 90 gr steel bullet and was considered to be a low recoil but still had a velocity of 3200 fps. Thus the small build ARVN troops could better use the M14 rifle - problem was they wanted the M16.
my photo shows the 4th cartridge as a green tip Duplex and number 5 as the white tip low recoil cartridge

Can anyone guess the purple tip 7,62mm cartridge
Sort of a quiz on 7,62 variations - anyone guess the nation that uses the purple tip 7,62mm cartridge ? it is not US
A big clue is that the NATO cross on the headstamp is not complete indicating that it is not a standard NATO loading. It has half a NATO cross

I seriously doubt it ever would have. Without directional pressures, the last two would just be wild. I know when I loaded two round ball in 45/70 they would land one on POA and the other within two inches. These would have been wild flyers.
