Sten gun parts for id, carbine?

    Hi everyone,
Took a trip up the other day to a dumpsite that i dig occasionally, the Britishicon Army used it after the end of the Second World War to dispose of surplus firearms. Plenty of SMLE, No4, Bren, P14 parts etc and several stocks for mk6 sten guns, however:

One of these Sten stocks would appear to be half the length of all the (i presume normal size) others. I've done some research into them and cant find any mention of this modification, perhaps a carbine version of some sort? Could anyone assist in helping me trying to id this part? Thanks!

I have also cleaned the part up further since the photo was taken, i am 100% positive it is not just a broken sten butt stock as it has the screw at the end still visible.

Yes. Some Mk5 Sten butts were made from converted No4 butts and used the SHORT bolt (you'll need to think about that.....), while other butts, made new, used a standard longer bolt. It's all to do with standardisation........

BUT....., you could end up in a situation where you had short bolt butts but long bolts. Simple solution was to get the machine shop to turn some wood spacers. Glue in, problem solved
