To Cut or Not To Cut?

I have an uncut -9SA op rod that needs a new piston.

I'm a shooter not a collector; an op rod that doesn't work isn't much use to me.

If I re-piston and repark I'd expect it would lose whatever collector value it may have.

So if it won't have much collector value I'm wondering if I might as well have a relief cut done at the same time?

No, I'm not afraid of shooting an uncut rod; my first CMPicon M1icon has one and I shot it in competition for several years. No, I don't plan to shoot any rifle grenades.

But I don't need to have a non-collector op rod on a competition rifle crack either.

I'm with you, a shooter is more important than a looker, what I did was I bought a Cut -9 SA new USGI then when I get the money I will have the NM Rod rebuilt.

I'd sell it to a collector and get a cut replacement.

+1 for what Cary had said.

Collector value would also be a determining factor.
It might be better in the long run to sell the uncut -9 Op Rod to a collector and purchase a "cut" Op Rod. I've noticed that uncut Op Rods usually fetch over $100.00, while the "cut" Op Rods in good condition can be had for around $50.00.
