Is he simply scrambling over the ridge or was he hit? Muzzle looks like it is plugged a bit and it appears his soles are a bit worn. IMO this photographer is in combat and it is not a staged photo opportunity.
It is a great picture. Full of drama. I hope and pray this guy wasn't hit...

What is that in the air right above his left shoulder? It looks like a projectile but I don't think a projectile would show up that clear in a picture. Maybe it's a brass case fired from a person unseen to his left maybe?
