    Bad Magazines

I have just received a colt ar light weight sporter, that has been in it's box for 30 years. Are there any brands or capacities of mags to stay away from?
    Thanks. John

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Since it is a factory built Colt and not in California with a maglock device, it should accept everything. I've run across a few ARs that will show a preference for either plastic or metal, but that is always due to the maglock and not the lower receiver itself. Pmag makes a nice magazine at a good price and they are available everywhere. Enjoy!

An older Colt product shouldn't be fussy mag-wise.

I would advise against ATI or Thermold. My brother got a "deal" on some Thermold 20rd magazines once. They ended up in the trash. I think on his ATI magazine the follower would hang up. Lancer, Magpul, Okay Industries, Brownells and Duramag 20s and 30s have been good for me. Can't go wrong with Okay or Magpul.

AR Stoner and any surplus mags all work great. I have found that plastic mags really aren't good in just about any application especially the AR platform. My experience is with using them in a 1989 Colt.

    other magazines

Original Colt are always good, I likes the AR-18 and Sterling magazines years ago. The surplus Cooper had the contract canceled are are just collector examples now

photo shows original early Colt with five round block, not common to find now !

RCS-- The FSCM is in error should be 30389 later CAGE Code. Someone at the manufacturer screwed up that one.

Thanks for all the input. I currently have 2 surplus 30s and the 2 factory 5rders with the spacers removed untill I pick up a few more.
