Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. It is for holding the butt handle and normally attached to the strut of the tripod.
Originals are quite rare but a reproduction run was made several years ago in the UK icon

You might find two small holes in the tripod strut for the rivets where it attaches
