A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. "These 30-40 cartridge were
use in sub caliber inserts in large coastal artillery during the 1920 to pre WW2"

What would the muzzle energy and velocity of a 30/40 from a 66'8" barrel be?

I expect the sub cal would be a 18 or 20 inch barrel in a mock up shell. Then it just freebores it's way out... I sure would like to see the rig though, would resemble a garbage can with an inner mechanism. I've seen them for the 106mm recoilless, the 1902A2 for arty, the big ones that used a basic 1" Gatling round...
