    Lost Pics

Well I found some pics that I thought had been lost I do not know where the originals are in an envelope somewhere in my eclectic collecting, this is their story.

We were approached by a lady farmer who had feral dog problem with losing sheep on her isolated property in the middle of the govt forest, returned soldiers lot.
So a mate and I went up for 2 days 1 night to help her out, we set up in the house and went spotlighting got one bitsa dog on the run with my original PH 22/250 Grand Safari.

Next day we dragged dead sheep from the dam obviously gone in there to escape the dogs fleece got waterlogged and they drowned, dead animals in still water = Botulism.
Sunday we were at the back of the property and saw 4 dogs quite happily trotting our way after running a flock around they had to cross a creek so we separated & set up an ambush.
I loaded 4 rounds my mate had a 22 semi auto with 2 x 10 rounds taped together.

Set the scope to 4x as we were only 20m from the creek sure enough here come the dogs after swimming the creek, by chance they had split up 2 for me and 2 for Jimmy.
So here we are wet dogs a 22/250 and a 22 no 1, 2, 3 just as soon as you got a shot go that's was the plan !
So I took out a bitsa whilst Jimmy unloaded on another with a good amount of lead 2 down, into my sight came a Germanicon Sheppard initially all I saw were teeth after the first shot high chest shot side on no affect!
Second round as he 1/4rd around into the chest still coming around but this one deflected him last round as he started to motor off through his neck ended lights out.

At this point Jimmy is yelling at me to fire on this dog that is heading straight at him as he had a jam on the last round of his 1st mag and the dog was in attack mode.
These are domestic dogs gone feral they get bigger and meaner and will not stop whilst savaging you.
Its at this point I yell to Jimmy that I am out of ammo I only brought 4 rounds the rest were in the vehicle 80 meters away FFS Ron!!!!!!!!
I watched this all unfold fearing for my friend helpless the dog bearing down and Jimmy clearing the jam, flipping the mag and getting another round into the chamber.
As he got the rifle functional again the dog was within feet of Jimmy who pushed the barrel onto the dogs head as it semi leapt at him and dumped it at his feet.

It was as scary as it gets I had left a toy (Legally owned) I was not supposed to have on site back in the car so could have dropped the rifle and possibly stopped the dog before it got to Jim.
But we do not live in the USAicon hence why I am squatting with the after pictures with some of the pack, as I had smuggled my S&W 357M so was packing in the pictures.
I was dumfounded the 22/250 after hitting the wet fur of the Alsatian just pin holed no massive exit wounds it should have gone down at the 1st hit but 3 from a 22/250 with soft points.
I went back to the shop explained what happened and really said maybe the lead was to hard either way I never used PMC ammo again went Remington otherwise I would have had 2 rounds to help Jimmy!
On a lighter note we got a bl**dy good feed of marron out of the creek for our tea they are delicious with fresh buttered bread pepper and brown vinegar.
This was nearly 35 years ago and its still vivid in my memory, sadly Jimmy died of cancer and my beautiful PH 22/250 I brought from my fathers estate money was stolen.

** As a footer we shot 23 sheep there, they had been savaged and fly struck, the owner went up the day after us and destroyed another 50 sheep after penning them up.
Careless owners losing or dumping dogs.

    RIP Jimmy.....

    Gotta love the iridium Oakley's.
