Early Beretta Model 84

This is my most recent purchase a 1978 vintage Beretta Model 84 pistol. Years later it was nicknamed the Beretta Cheetah for reasons unknown.

While not up to the daily carry standard of US Law Enforcement it indeed was an issued arm throughout the world, used by Belgium, Slovenia and Italy to name a few. The guy I bought it from had it since they were first imported back in the 90's and said this one was used somewhere in Italy. He claimed to have only put 2 boxes of ammo through it in all that time. It obviously was well cared for and rarely used.

It functions perfectly as-is however I do plan a new set of Wolff springs for it. The pistol came with 2 standard 13 round magazines however I'm not allowed to have those because they qualify as "high capacity" so I had to buy my own 10 rounders which are pictured.

Showing only minimal wear on all surfaces including hardly any from a holster my guess is it was issued to a higher rank and was occasionally fired for qualification. The Model 81 in 32acp and the Model 84 in 380 were introduced in 1975 and production began in 1976 so this one was made within the first 2 years and predates any of the subsequent suffix models. With an ambidextrous safety and decocker it's as safe as anything modern-day. It's a lot of fun to shoot and isn't snappy on the hand like compact 380's are. I only wish I had bought one sooner.

I've had a few of the small Berettas also and yes, they work well and are fun. I'm not sure about the Wolfe spring set though, they're over power and may affect your function. I'd seek some original strength springs, but you may luck out and not have any problems. Nice piece...

Usually Wolff gives you options on spring strength. When I resprung my P38 I believe there were 2 or 3 options to the recoil spring strength. For the High Power I remember them offering 2 different strengths. I may try and go to Beretta directly to order springs seeing as this pistol is still being manufactured unlike the others.

If they're still in manufacture you should be able to replace them one for one...would be a certainty.
