Spanish FR-8 Magazine Follower and Spring

A friend gifted me a La Coruna 1950 FR-8 today. The overall condition of the rifle is good to very good. The only issue is the follower and follower spring. I've read the FR-8 is based on the Mauser 98. I've looked on Numrich at the Mauser 98 parts and they have the spring and follower. However the follower is for 8mm. Does anyone know if this follower will feed the 7.62X51 rounds? If not, what Mauser model follower will work?

Also, any ideas as to what i can use to adjust the front sight down?

Is this the sort of thing you want?

Wasn't it in 7.62x51? I thought they fed fine? I only knew of a couple here but never heard of problems.

Yes, I need something like that. I don't even know where it will shoot yet. My friend said it shot way high at 100 yards and the front sight needed to be adjusted a lot. As for feeding, the spring is bent and the follower is pretty rough. For whatever reason, the first round you put in the magazine will jump back out. After that it works better. Figured I'd replace the follower and spring to correct it. I just figured the 8mm follower available at Numrich was longer and didn't know if it would require shortening or what to make work. Also, where did you get the information on the front sight from? Looks like something I need to read all of. Thanks for the info!

If it shoots high you need to raise the front sight to bring the point of impact down to line up with the point of aim. Also make sure the rear sight is adjusted as low as it can go before adjusting the front sight. As illogical as it sounds all front sight adjustments are the opposite of where you want the shot to go. Up moves it down, down moves it up, right moves it left and left moves it right.
The 8mm follower should work fine as the 2 rounds have similar profiles. Almost any Mauser style magazine spring should work providing it attaches to the follower and floorplate properly.

I'd ask what ammo he used. Try military ball first before jumping to conclusions. I'd never believe anyone else's shooting results.

A word of caution here. Some of those sight adjustment tools are less than robust, and the sight post may be stubborn. If you sense resistance, don't push it. Back off and dose the sight post with Kroil or some such for a while. Return and conquer later. Didn't quite bend the wings off my adjuster, but came too close.

Made of mild steel, yes...the little prongs can just shear. I would even attempt to make one.

I made a front sight adjustment tool today. I'd had the front sight soaking in Kroil for the past two days. The lock screw came right out. My sight adjustment tool took 3-4 modifications before it fell into place. Again, Kroil had done the trick. Screwed the sight right out. Got it cleaned up and put back. Dissassembled, cleaned and reassembled rifle. Now, I'm just sitting back waiting for the magazine follower and spring to arrive from Numrich.

Update. The milled M98 mag follower and spring came in. Feeds great now. Got it sighted in too. Now to try and find a bottom sling swivel that its missing.
