6,5x53.5R: Return of the shortened Model 71

Way back in 2018 i put a post up on the forum about a German Model 71 Mauser my buddy had because I didn't know what it really was or the actual caliber. Bob q, RCS, rcathey, browningautorifleicon (jim), and Patrick Chadwick helped me discover that it is a shortened Model 71 with a stock that was cut down from a Model 71/84 and that the ammunition for this rifle is the 6,5x53.5R Daudeteau.

Well, I'm still messing with this rifle and recently was able to find four cartridges for it (won't be shooting them). I'm considering making a high temp silicone mold of the bullet so that I can cast and powder coat some bullets to load shootable cartridges. I picked up some old Hollywood 6.5x55mm dies to modify as well.

There is a site offering them, but they're pricy. 6.5X53.5R French Daudeeteau Cases

Dies are in Europe but that should be available... 6,5x53,5R French Daudeteau CH4D reloading dies | Strobl.cz

Euros to USD isn't too bad. 152.56 EUR = 162.42 USD

Thing I just am not confident in is WHAT 6.5 bullet exactly, I find they don't match up and usually are something bigger or unavailable. These are the ones Buffalo arms are using... 6.5mm .264 140 gr InterLock® SP - Hornady Manufacturing, Inc

Hi Jim, I found them from CH Tool & Die for $247 USD. I find it interesting that those are the dies STROBL.CZ is selling for 152.56 EUR = 161.73 USD. Wonder what the shipping cost is. Hornday will make them as well for $220.00

The four original bullets in the cartridges I bought are Nickle Jacket 6.63mm (.261") and 6.64 (.262"), Copper Jacket 6.67mm (.262") and 6.67mm (.262") not sure, but judging by the case deformation it looks like they might be 30mm (1.200") in length.

Cheap and easy to make ammo for . Cut the 6.5x55mm dies down . Size down the neck to 6.5mm just enough to get a good chambering . Check the rim size , mine did not need anything , but I was using Lapua cases that have a chamfered rim . Slug you bore to be sure , All of mine ran about .267+ groove dia . The common Hornady 6.5 .264 160 rn Bullet did ok .

The ammo pictured in the the OP are 6.5 Dutch not 6.5 Daudeteau.

Thank you for the heads up! I'll have to remark on the plastic bag they came in.
Interesting... So I did some reading and the source I found said "The 6.5x53.5mm Daudeteau cartridge closely resembles the 6.5 Dutch but has a slightly larger diameter." but not what diameter is larger. I think the rim but will need to dig further. I also suspect the charge is powder larger. The bullet is the part I was after though so that I could make a mold of it.

The body dia of the 6.5 Daud ctg is about .030" larger than 6.5 Dutch. I made 6.5 Daud ctg from 7.62 Russianicon.
    Check municion.org for specs
