What Beaumont Rifle Do I Have?

    Good Morning,

Just received my RTI gamble and I am very pleased with the role of the dice. However, I am not sure what I have sitting on the bench. Stock, receiver, and rear sight matching. It is definitely single-shot but there are no holes or filled-in holes where the safety would have been, the receiver and stock are still setup for single-shot. However, there is a square hole on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is dated 1878 and I am thinking this is an 1871 Type 2. While cleaning, noticed the buttplate has a date of 1888 and #514. This number is also on the barrel.

I had to use a metal rod and mallet to break up the crud in the barrel. All is well with no pitting and there is still some rifling ready for the 100 rounds I have been sitting on for several years.

Missing the lower barrel band spring. Any leads would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Randy

    Hi Patrick,

Me too. Sorry to ask, but can you download it to your desktop and see if you can enlarge it?

    Thanks,

Found a single-shot receiver with the square hole. The weapon is an amazingly inlaid first model with the "hooked" safety on the right side and the same square hole with nothing seemingly attached on the left like mine. Randy

Here's my two. Both were modified to be repeaters and the bottom one is an early sporter. I got it at a flea market in pretty rough shape and cleaned it up. Only sporter I have. It can't be restored, it wasn't a carbine, it's cut down.
