I watched a documentary last week about a special organisation, within the US military, whose job it is to account for all US missing in action from all wars that the US has been involved in and where possible recover any remains. According to the documentary the US has an agreement with Vietnam whereby it can send limited number of teams into the country to search for US missing every year, for a limited time every year.

And North Korea still won't let the remains of Jesse Brown come home that's if they did recover his remains after both downed Corsairs were destroyed by another flight from the Carrier.

I just finished reading "The greatest beer run ever" - a very good read. Apple+ made a move not long ago. Haven't seen it yet. Anyway, one of the friends that author Chickie Donahue went to find was a contractor whose job was to rush all over the country to retrofit helicopters with radio scramblers, as the enemy learned very quickly how to just listen to the FM radio and know exactly when/where we were coming. I'd imagine there is an account in that Life article being ambushed in the LZ for this reason.

    MY YANKEE PAPA
Early in the Vietnam War, before the United Statesicon was heavily involved the U.S. Marine Corps was assisting the South Vietnamese in their conflict of trying to push back the spread of communism. My father, Lt. Dale D. Eddy was flying a Sikorsky H-34 helicopters with HMM-163 Squadron. Most missions were to ferry South Vietnamese infantry to the front and on March 31, 1965 they were attacked on their third sortie while dropping soldiers off at the LZ. Dad’s ship, Yankee Papa 3 took on heavy gun fire and dad was shot in neck temporally paralyzing him while others in his crew were injured or killed. Dad describes his Vietnam experience, the events of March and the brave men that played a part in saving his him and how wild it was to be part of a article in LIFE Magazine.

I'm hoping one of those teams eventually finds my cousin Charles Alva Dale and his TO David Demmon. Shot down June 9th,1965 flying a mohawk surveillance plane.
