M96 Swiss Mauser barrel and bayonet question

    Hello All,
I have just acquired my first M96 Swissicon Mauser. By all appearances it is an Infantry model rife. I have just received what is supposed to be the correct bayonet but when I went to put it on, I discovered that the end of the barrel is cut flush with the front site so the ring on the bayonet has nothing to fit over. The crown of the barrel looks to be factory but I don't know so I'm hoping someone can help explain this. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe I have screwed up and put this in the wrong area. My rifle is a Swedishicon rifle and not swiss. Please forgive my stupidity

    "My rifle is a Swedishicon"

    It would have to be...

Some of those had a threaded muzzle and I'll bet somebody didn't like it...had it turned off and re-crowned. If done right it could look original and drop it in the bluing salts tank would cover perfectly. There should be about half inch in front of the sight. Pics would help.
    Regards, Jim

My guess is in line with browningautorifles, that your rifle was built for use with the blank adaptors. This means the end of the barrel was threaded. A previous owner, probably not liking the look of the treaded barrel, cut it off. Probably the only solution to this is to have a barrel extension added to it that is the right exterior size with the bore oversized, so it doesn't interfere with the bullet exiting the barrel.
