The Members Showcase Forum is designed to be an area for any MILSURPS.COM registered member, to display their personal military surplus firearms and accessories collections.

It is a READ ONLY forum environment for creating NEW threads, however, members may REPLY to already established threads with their personal comments. ImageEvent is being used to host members collections and viewers of the various pics on that site, may also leave individual comments on a picture by picture basis, or sign the guestbook leaving an overall general comment at the bottom of the album page.

Here are two of my June purchases. The M1 Garand has had a thread made about it on the forum. I have not pulled numbers off of it yet. The handgun is a Deutsche Werke Ortgies in 6.35x16mm (.25 ACP).

Complete C-Mk-1 "Telescope, Observing, Snipers" with matching "Stand, Instrument". Only approximately 500 of the Telescopes and the Stands (Tripod) were manufactured by Research Enterprises Limited (R.E.L.) in Ontario, Canada during 1945. As legend has it, the British told Canadian authorities that the UK was going to switch from Telescopes to Binoculars for Sniper Spotters, therefore they were not interested in upgrading their 20x, 4-draw "Scout Regiment Telescopes" with the superior, 25x Canadian Single-Draw C-Mk-1 Scope. Due to the lack of an apparent market for the new Spotting Scope, production ceased at R.E. L. in 1945. As it turned out, the British stuck with the use of their "Scout Regiment Telescope" right up until the 1990s, and would have been far better served by the lighter-weight, fast-focus and clever folding Tripod of the C-Mk-1 had they not succumbed to "not made here" syndrome. Today, the Telescopes are occasionally available for purchase on the militaria and military surplus firearms circuits and sell for approximately $2000 CAD (condition-dependent). The ingenious "Instrument Stand" folding tripods are much more difficult to source these days, and are frequently only available as part of a complete set of Scope and Tripod. At least this has been my personal collecting experience with the Canadian WW2 Spotting Scopes. The Folding Tripods typically sell for $100 CAD if you can find one orphaned from a Spotting Telescope.
